A lifetime of service became the foundation for this mission.
For nearly 35 years, I had the privilege of serving my fellow citizens—first as a United States Marine serving in intelligence and later as a civilian supporting our nation's Intelligence Community. Throughout those years, integrity, accountability, and service were not merely ideals; they became the principles that guided every chapter of my life. Along the way, I served beside some of the finest men and women our nation has to offer, an experience I will always consider an honor. Throughout my life, I have believed that integrity, accountability, and service are more than ideals, they are principles to be lived.
This Foundation is more than the story of one man's life. It is a commitment to preserve my experiences and the documentary record supporting them while encouraging thoughtful discussion about character, accountability, and public trust. Above all, it exists to help others navigate difficult circumstances with greater knowledge, confidence, and hope.
My objective is to create the kind of resource I wish had existed when I needed it—a trusted place where individuals can access reliable information, practical tools, and guidance from qualified professionals. Through these resources, people may be better equipped to understand oversight processes, organize evidence, identify appropriate reporting channels, and make informed decisions about their next steps.
This project also preserves one family's story for future generations. Yet its purpose extends far beyond my own experience. Its success will be measured not by my story, but by whether the lessons learned help others navigate their own journeys with greater clarity, confidence, and hope.
I do not ask you to accept my conclusions simply because they are mine. I ask only that you examine my journey with an open mind, consider the evidence thoughtfully, and remember that behind every document, every investigation, every conflicting account, and every decision is a human life.
Our Role
The SCARS OF SERVICE Foundation exists to educate, organize, and empower individuals by helping them better understand complex administrative and oversight processes. Through trusted information, practical resources, and professional collaboration, we help individuals preserve important information, organize documentation, identify appropriate resources, and participate in these processes with greater knowledge, confidence, and integrity.
The Foundation does not investigate complaints, determine facts, provide legal representation, or replace the responsibilities of employers, government agencies, inspectors general, EEO offices, human resources professionals, attorneys, or the courts.
Instead, our role is to help individuals become informed participants in the processes they face. By encouraging preparation, ethical decision-making, respectful communication, and responsible participation, we seek to strengthen public trust while helping individuals make informed decisions about their next steps.

The Need
Every day, millions of people place their trust in organizations to make decisions that affect their careers, reputations, families, and futures. Most never expect to navigate administrative or oversight processes until those systems suddenly become personal.
When that happens, many discover just how complex those processes can be. Questions arise. Documentation becomes critical. Deadlines matter. Uncertainty grows. Without reliable information and practical guidance, individuals often struggle to understand where to begin or how to participate effectively.
Throughout my career, I completed leadership courses, ethics training, equal employment opportunity instruction, administrative programs, and countless hours of professional development. Yet nothing prepared me for navigating the administrative processes I ultimately encountered. Instead of finding a clear path forward, I found myself researching laws, policies, reporting channels, and administrative processes—moving from one office, program, or resource to another in search of meaningful assistance.
At the heart of every organization are people. Employees, supervisors, investigators, human resources professionals, executives, and decision-makers all have the ability to influence another person's career, reputation, livelihood, and well-being. When people approach those responsibilities with integrity, accountability, and respect, trust grows. When they do not, the consequences can last far beyond the conclusion of any investigation or proceeding.
The SCARS OF SERVICE Foundation exists to help bridge that gap through education, practical resources, evidence organization, and collaboration with experienced professionals. Our mission is not to replace existing systems, but to help individuals better understand them, participate responsibly, and preserve confidence in processes designed to serve both people and organizations.

Within its pages, I share the journey that shaped my life—from growing up in Lafayette, Louisiana, through nearly 35 years of serving America, first as a United States Marine serving in intelligence and later as a civilian supporting our nation's Intelligence Community, to the experiences that ultimately gave birth to this Foundation.
Along the way, I discovered that life is ultimately a story of:

Together, they tell the story of a lifetime of service, the challenges that tested my character, and the enduring belief that every scar carries the opportunity to strengthen another life.
If my experiences encourage even one person to preserve their character, lead with integrity, keep faith, or continue serving others despite adversity, then every scar has found its purpose.

Why This Mission Matters to Me
I did not begin this journey intending to write a book or establish a nonprofit organization. Like many others, I believed that if I acted with integrity, documented the facts, and followed established procedures, the system would guide me where I needed to go.
Instead, that experience became an education unlike any I had received before. Years of research, documentation, public record requests, and communication across multiple agencies revealed how difficult it can be to understand complex administrative processes and identify the resources available to navigate them.
That experience was built upon a lifetime of service. I served nearly three decades in the United States Marine Corps, retiring as a Master Gunnery Sergeant after leading Marines through combat deployments, humanitarian missions, and positions of significant responsibility. I later continued serving within the Intelligence Community, where I worked alongside government and contractor organizations supporting our national security.
Throughout those years, I learned that effective leadership is built on preparation, accountability, sound judgment, and earning the trust of those you serve. The experiences that inspired this Foundation reinforced another lesson: meaningful solutions are rarely achieved by one person alone.
While I do not claim to have all the answers, I have gained knowledge and experience that I believe can benefit others. More importantly, I understand the value of bringing together experienced professionals whose expertise complements one another and strengthens the mission.
The SCARS OF SERVICE Foundation is not built around one individual.
It is built around people united by a shared commitment to integrity, accountability, and service.
Our vision is to bring together investigators, attorneys, ethics professionals, records specialists, human resources professionals, veterans, and other subject-matter experts who share a commitment to integrity, accountability, fairness, and public service.
As I learned throughout my career, leadership is not about having all the answers. It is about bringing the right people together to find them.
